NO Bullying, STOP Bullying: Let’s Be Friends!
During the high-energy dance assembly students learn valuable lessons about positivity, fairness and working together. Illstyle acts out scenerios that place two school groups against one another in day-to-day life, and finally in a dance-off. With the help of a dedicated teacher, the students soon come together, discovering that they are more alike than they are different.

Hip Hop Added Up!
Using movement patterns and complex rhythms, Illstyle explains math concepts in a fun and engaging way. They cover addition, subtraction, multiplication and fractions, and help kids associate positive messages with mathematics with audience participation throughout the program.

The History of Hip-Hop
This high-energy program brings the history of hip-hop dance to life. The company shares this history through interactive lecture, jaw-dropping dance, and a compelling Q&A session. Students learn the positive aspects of hip-hop art and culture, technical elements of this dance form, and how the dance has evolved. DJing, the Human Beat-Box, and the MC are only a few elements covered.

Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad
The performance is a costumed first-person re-enactment of the live trials and triumphs of Harriet Ross Tubman. It includes Underground Railroad and work songs, quilts, audience participation and movement. The program gives dates and historical content about the Civil War, Quakers, Underground Railroad codes and names of other abolitionists like Frederick Douglass, William Still, Beth Van Lew, Levi Coffin, and Abraham Lincoln.

4-Day Cartooning Residency
Students will design original characters, script their own stories, and refine rough sketches into final artwork for a multi-panel cartoon page. Using the conventions of graphic novel storytelling—narration, dialogue, character design, dynamic page layouts, and cinematic techniques —they will bring their stories to life as they combine words and images. They will explore various pen-and-ink techniques and learn how to use color to evoke a mood or atmosphere

4-Day Hands-On History of Animation Residency
Through the creation of three optical toys–thaumatropes, zoetrope strips, and flip-books–students will learn about the history, science, and creative possibilities of animation. They will progress from these 19th century pre-cinema toys to present day digital animation as they use their Chromebooks to create a stop-motion animated sequence.

Dancing Through South Africa
Experience three dynamic dance cultures from South Africa! Start with modern Pantsula, an upbeat, urban dance similar to American Hip-hop-then explore historic Gumboat, with percussive sounds that helped gold miners communicate through rhythm – and traditional Ndlamu, a snapshot of Zulu village dance, customs, and high-energy drumming.

The Passion and Inspiration of the Drums
Percussion World’s high energy blend of spicy Afro-Latin rhythms introduces audiences to exotic world percussion instruments including the balafone, djembe, cuica, and berimbao. Throughout this highly educational, fun, and entertaining performance, students and faculty participate with clapping and call and response, and are invited to play drums from a variety of cultures.

Rhythm Rocks! (workshop)
Luis Garay’s dynamic percussion workshop introduces students to the exciting and fascinating world of Afro-Latin, Jazz, and World percussion music and instruments including congas, djembes, bongos, balafones, shakers, and much more! His unique “hands-on” style of teaching encourages workshop participants to experience the exhilaration of being “in the groove” as they learn and perform rhythm patterns from different cultures on the actual instruments!
