Science Powers

In Big Learning Science classes, students develop their science powers! Each activity is tied to one or more skills from our Science Power framework.

Play: Play and curiosity go hand in hand. Even adult scientists learn through play, manipulating materials just because it’s fun to see what happens.

Observe: Our students learn to observe with all their senses, to observe carefully and closely, and to record their observations.

Work on models: Students make models of scientific concepts using everyday materials, games, and even their bodies.

Experiment: Students are introduced to the scientific method. They do experiments and invent their own.

Reflect and Analyze: What does it all mean? Our students spend part of each class on the “so what?” questions, like why this science is important and powerful, and how it explains phenomena of every-day life.
