Mary Carvajal, President
Mary Carvajal has an MA in linguistics, specializing in teaching ESOL at the university level. She currently teaches part-time at Montgomery College. Her husband is bi-lingual, and they strongly support second language learning at a young age. Their three children have all participated in the FLES program at school, and she has acted as school coordinator for both the Science and Engineering and FLES programs. In addition, she has served on their children’s pre-school and elementary school PTA executive boards, and is active in the middle school PTA.
Dawn Watkins-Chow
Dawn Watkins-Chow has two children attending MCPS and keeps herself busy as a scientist in the field of Genetics and Genomics. She holds a Ph.D. in Human Genetics from the University of Michigan and undergraduate degrees in Biology and Chemical Engineering from MIT. Dawn has more than 15 years of volunteer experience in numerous school and youth program settings and believes that engaging extracurricular activities are critical for developing creativity and independent thinking in our future leaders.
Karin Green, Vice-President
Karin Green is an attorney specializing in trademark law and a mother of two enthusiastic learners. Karin graduated from Macalester College, summa cum laude, and received her J.D. from Harvard Law School, where she was Supreme Court Editor on The Harvard Law Review. For over a dozen years, Karin has edited and contributed to Gilson on Trademarks, a leading treatise in the field. She is active in Court Watch in Montgomery County. She has been involved in PTAs and neighborhood organizations, and was president of the board of Big Learning, Inc., which was acquired by EPI. Karin strongly believes that creative, after-school science and language education can help shrink the achievement gap.
