About Us
Big Learning
Big Learning, aka MCCPTA Educational Programs, Inc., is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing creative and engaging afterschool enrichment programs to elementary and middle school students in Montgomery County, Maryland. We currently offer programs in foreign language, science and engineering, as well as services that enable access to the cultural arts. Each of these programs focus on experiential and play-based learning, in an effort to build an excitement for knowledge that will last a lifetime.
In an effort to improve equitable access to education enrichment, Big Learning is dedicated to making our programs affordable. That way, regardless of economic situation, all children have the opportunity to thrive. Our organization offers need-based scholarships each session, and stands by its commitment to provide quality educational programs that are accessible to all. For over 48 years, MCCPTA EPI/Big Learning has proudly enriched the lives of over 220,000 students in more than 90 schools across Montgomery County.
Big Learning Science & Engineering
Innovation is everywhere!
Big Learning Science & Engineering sparks the curiosity in children with playful, interactive, hands-on science and engineering activities for children PreK-6th grade. Unlike demonstration-based science programs, Big Learning Science & Engineering gives children an opportunity to learn by doing. By actively participating in exciting experiments and projects, our students enjoy exploring the fundamentals of science, engineering and the Scientific Method. Through Big Learning Science & Engineering, our students develop the critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and creativity skills needed to become innovators for life.
Big Learning Foreign Language: FLES
Big Learning FLES offers quality, immersion-based foreign language classes in Spanish, Mandarin Chinese and French for children kindergarten-6th grade. Children enjoy learning new languages from native speakers, as they explore foreign lands through exciting stories, fun games, and imaginative interactive activities. With FLES, children gain confidence and comfort in the hearing and speaking of a new language – opening their doors to a global 21st century. FLES classes take place before and after school. Classes are coordinated through Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) in cooperation with the public schools.
Big Learning Cultural Arts Showcases
Each year Big Learning presents a showcase of performers interested in providing cultural arts entertainment to children in Montgomery County Public Schools. With 2-4 days of performances, the Showcases offer PTA representatives an unmatched opportunity to sample entertainment from around the globe.
